As a young child I was fascinated with money. I remember putting my change into a coin pouch and my dollar bills into my Snoopy wallet. I would meticulously organize the bills with the highest ones on the inside of the wallet with all of the faces facing out. It was this interest in money that my father helped nurture as we would review mutual fund newsletters together, look up the ticker symbols in the newspaper, and track how our portfolio was doing.
My view of money has changed significantly over the years. As a child I wanted money for the sake of money, now I see money as a means to an end, and not the end itself. Helping my clients manage their wealth is the means to having them achieve their goals. I find it personally rewarding to see my clients succeed financially because I am helping them realize their life goals.
